The kitchen of our homes generates an amount of waste that in general we do not dimension, although our awareness of the environment is changing more and more every day and millions of people in the world are interested in improving their kitchen habits.

Here we give you 5 anti-waste tips that will also help take care of your home and your budget.

1. Plan weekly menus

The fight against waste begins in the shopping cart! Take the time to write all the menus for the week and then write your shopping list. When you shop online or in the store, you'll be more focused and less likely to be tempted. The idea? Buy less and better, especially fresh products. Prefer shopping trips 2 to 3 times a week, in small quantities.

2. Reorganize your storage

To avoid regularly finding expired products at the back of a cabinet or in your refrigerator, adopt the reflex of the professionals of the food trade. When you unpack your purchases, always look at the expiration date. Put products that expire first in plain sight, on the front row of your shelves!

3. Cook your fruits and vegetables

Consuming fresh fruits and vegetables allows you to take full advantage of their vitamin benefits. This does not mean that once blemished or overripe, they are good to throw away! Wash them and cut them into pieces, even if that means removing unwanted parts. Then prepare a good vegetable soup. And for the fruit? Cook a compote sprinkled with cinnamon.

4. Give a second life to your dishes

We quickly put leftover food in the fridge, where it loses its good looks and ends up drying out. To end this waste, simply recycle your preparations! Leftover pasta gratin, leftover meat and a little mashed potatoes to make a shepherd's pie. There are a thousand and one simple and delicious ways to recycle your preparations!

5. Recycle stale bread

It's true: even good bread lacks appeal when it goes stale. However, there are several delicious ways to consume it. You can crumble it to prepare breadcrumbs, which you will use in your empanada recipes. You can also make croutons (brown bread in clarified butter) that you can enjoy with either soup or salad. If you are rather sweet, bet on bread-based desserts!
